Mt Linton station opens its gates TUATAPERE: Mount Linton Station opened it gates to the public earlier this month, the first open day held in 13 years. More than 400 people toured the 11,000ha Western Southland station, situated on the eastern side of the Takitimu mountains. The station is jointly owned by the McGregor Family Trust and Masfen Farms Ltd and runs more than 100,000 stock. The purpose of the open day was to outline the station's breeding-genetics programmes and work done to develop the sustainable hill country. Ballance Agri-Nutrients spokesmen Richard Preston and Jeff Morton talked about hill country development, noting improvements in subdivision, e planted in 2005. There are more than 300km of gradable roads. There are about 300ha of native bush fenced off. CURRENT SALES PER YEAR 380,000kg of wool. 55,000 works lambs. 3400 head of cattle. 300 Texel and Suftex rams. 250 Angus bulls. 650 steers.
